Who bought the church of God with his own blood, according to Acts 20:28 and 2 Peter 2:1?

And what do these scriptures tell us about false prophets who introduce destructive heresies about our Sovereign Lord? If God bought the church with his own blood, what does that say about Jesus? And if there is only one Lord and only one Saviour, what does that say about Jesus?

Acts 20:28 (NASB) Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you [a]overseers, to shepherd the church of [Jesus, Lord and even of] God which He purchased [Literally 'acquired'] with [Literally 'through'] His own blood.

    All I know is:

    Part 1: Purpose

Heb. 2:14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,

1 John 3:8 The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.

1 Peter 1:18-20 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times [Literally 'at the end of the times'] for the sake of you

    Part 2: Ownership

Titus 2:14 who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

    Part 3: Secret

John 12:27-32 “Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came out of heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” So the crowd of people who stood by and heard it were saying that it had thundered; others were saying, “An angel has spoken to Him.” Jesus answered and said, “This voice has not come for My sake, but for your sakes.

Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.”

John 3:13-15 No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man [no man has ascended into the highest heavens, but He who descended from the highest heavens; Eph. 4:10]. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness [and it became a source of life to those who hoped in it for deliverance], even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him [knows Him/has the desire for Him (2 Tim. 4:8, Heb. 9:27-28, 1 Cor. 15:22-23, 2 Tim. 3:12, Rom. 8:13-14, 9, John 3:8) and is connected to Him] have eternal life.

    1 Cor. 15:45; Heb. 5:9; Phil. 3:8, 10-11

John 6:62-63 What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before? It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

    John 3:34-35
    John 10:30-36
    Psalm 82

    Part 4: Ultimatum

    Acts 17:30
    1 Peter 1:2, 22-23
    John 13:8
    John 15
    John 15:6

Hallelujah! God has BLOOD! He became a Genuine Man.. JESUS CHRIST!
No One less than God Himself, and His Efficacious blood can deal with all our problems of sin and purchase us. His Blood is that of an eternal covenant and speaks better things for us than the blood of Abel.

Thank You God, our Lord Jesus Christ, for loving us to the uttermost! Keep us under Your Perfect blood everyday. May we wash our robes and have the right to the tree of Life.

  • I Try

Acts 20:28 Pay attention to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the holy spirit has appointed YOU overseers, to shepherd the congregation of God, which he purchased with the blood of his own [Son] [NWT]

We must note the false translation of the NWT that tries to deny Christ is God. Then, when we read the passage below we can understand who the JW’s are and that we have been warned about them by God Himself.

2 Peter 2:1 However, there also came to be false prophets among the people, as there will also be false teachers among YOU. These very ones will quietly bring in destructive sects and will disown even the owner that bought them, bringing speedy destruction upon themselves. [NWT]

Who bought the church of God with his own blood?

God brought the church with His own blood when He Himself was manifest as Christ the man on earth.

If God bought the church with his own blood, what does that say about Jesus?

He was the one to shed His blood so He must be God.

And if there is only one Lord and only one Saviour, what does that say about Jesus?

Christ is our Lord and Savior so He must also be God.

False prophets will reap what they sow.
God so loved the world… and by giving His blood so too Jesus loves each and every person.

This doctrine teaches the predestination of a person. This is also called limited atonement.

    Westminster Confession of Faith –
“Neither are any other redeemed by Christ, effectually called, justified, adopted, sanctified, and saved, but the elect only.”

  • unity to The end.

Too protect a man’s doctrine or give rise to him who speaks of them self as a living one is all too false fear as not for the Lord and Father of a Son; it was Christ Jesus whom the glory of a living savior belongs too as the whole world as being saved, was saved by his blood while on earth in his good nature. But yet the good of him as truths sets us free also; for he who comes too the saving grace, the truth, has the something where spirit is encompassing faith and not religion or denomination, beware; and I say know him it’s your end in him, I say snatch it as the Lord leads you don’t be snatch. But yet as steadfast faith where no lie lies in wait for none.. It is the end of the state of mind of just belonging to domination will save you this is a lie and always has been, for salvation is a personal relation with God as a living world in living word unto all. If your end is not in this direction you’re missing what I have been saying; nevertheless all men will bow unto the name, as Truly above all names in the distant future, Jesus Christ is Lord.

2Pet3:5 For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and earth was formed out of *water* and **by** *water*,
2Pet3:6 through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water.
2Pet3:7 But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for *fire*, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

For as we see, it’s the “word” of judgment, and this judgment is Christ within of us, you, the hope and glory through Jesus as a living word, the small and great
“but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;”

For the remnant was Noah *a preacher of righteousness*, with seven others, but yet with fire whom as true will overcome unto the end as the remnant, will it not be righteousness it’s self?

And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell. (James 3:6)

But no one can tame the tongue; a restless evil full of deadly poison. With it we bless Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God; from the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way. Does a fountain send out from the same opening fresh and bitter? Can a fig tree, my brethren, produce olives, or a vine produce figs? Nor salt water produce fresh. (James 3:8-12)

    Wisdom from Above
13Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom. 14But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and lie against the truth.
18And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.
    But evil,
“Daring, self-willed, they do not tremble when they revile angelic majesties”,
“suffering wrong as the wages of doing wrong.”
“reviling where they have no knowledge”
“having eyes full of adultery that never cease from sin”
“forsaking the right way, they have gone astray,”
    “These are springs without water”
“They count it a pleasure to revel in the daytime”
    “They are stains and blemishes”
“promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved.”
“It has happened to them according to the true proverb, “A DOG RETURNS TO ITS OWN VOMIT,” and, “A sow, after washing, to wallowing in the mire.” http://nasb.scripturetext.com/2_peter/2.htm

This is not a chat room it a place where we exchange what God is doing for *us all* as a living word one to another not hiding anything!

“Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.”

We all do not have the same gifts but yet the same Spirit!

Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment. But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the first one must keep silent. For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted; and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets; for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.http://nasb.scripturetext.com/1_corinthians/14.htm (29-33)

Should this also be done here as orderly? As details be so also One, in the prophets hearts as one, so the many plain too in then agreement so all can see and believe, but yet selfish ambition is of the DEVIL and these will also go to hell?(James 3:6)

Interesting point, especially in regard to the choice of words Paul was using here.

The point most missed is not the fact it is obviously Jesus blood , but the sentence structure used by Paul , who is a strict monotheistic Jew, affirms this person in this verse to be God !

Yes, it is an unmistakable reference to the blood of Christ, however, the connection in Paul’s mind is the same which John declared of Christ to be God. This Jesus who proclaimed himself God, (Jn ch 8-10) proved his claim by raising himself from the dead (John 2:19-20; Jn 10:17-18)

By adding the word Son in brackets, is an obvious attempt to separate Paul’s thoughts and usage of terms to show Jesus is not Deity as Paul clearly sees Him to be

A.T. Robertson clearly and correctly points out the hinge is on the words “Church of God”. and by the agency of his blood. Whose Blood? If ‘tou theou’ is correct, as it is, then Jesus here is called “God” who shed his own blood for the flock.
It will not do to say that Paul did not call Jesus God for we have Romans 9:5, Col. 2:9 and Titus 2:13 where he (Paul) does that very thing .

The JW’s NWT Appendix, and JW answers here on R&S, continually miss the whole of the verse, and only focus on the ending to redefine Pauls thought.

As to 2 Peter 2:1,, He was warning about the false teachers (& prophets) they are in for a big surprise for promoting a false Christ & false Gospel. Jesus let OT speak for him, as well as receiving the labels by the Jews and disciples for being very God.

Concerning Acts 20:28, …I will stick with what Paul teaches over corrupted views of anyone trying to rob Jesus of His true identity.

    Good question GT

  • .

Thank you for asking this powerful question.
Jesus purchased us with his own blood, he is God. His name means God’s salvation.
In the KJV 1873 edition, in Isaiah 12:2 it reads ” Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust, and not be afraid, for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song, he also is become my salvation”
